Bookem documents support a draft-saving feature designed to protect your work while editing documents, even if you forget to click save during a session. This feature works like a temporary autosave that stores your progress on your device browser while you work on it.
When you’re working on a document, Bookem automatically saves a draft version every few seconds. This draft:
Is stored only in your browser
Remains available even if you close your browser or navigate away
Allows you to resume work without losing unsaved changes
Is available only on the device and browser where the edits were made
If you return to the document later, Bookem will detect the draft and give you two options:
Continue from draft to restore your unsaved changes
Discard draft to revert to the last version saved on the server
To ensure your work is secure and available across all your devices, ALWAYS click save when you’re done editing.
Bookem’s draft-saving feature is a helpful safety net, but it’s important to understand how it works and what it doesn’t do:
Is this the same as auto-save?
No. Auto-save usually means your work is saved automatically. Bookem’s draft feature only saves your changes in your browser. You still need to click save to store your document in your Bookem account.
Where is the draft saved?
Only in your browser, on the device you’re using. It’s not uploaded to the server until you click save.
When does it save?
Automatically, every few seconds while you’re editing.
Is the draft permanent?
No. It’s a temporary backup. While it usually stays put, it can be lost if your device runs low on storage or if your browser clears its data.
Can I access the draft on another device?
No. Drafts are not shared across devices. You’ll only see it on the same browser and device where you made the changes.
Can the draft be lost?
Yes, although it’s rare. If your browser clears its storage (for example, due to low memory), the draft could be lost.
Do I still need to click save?
Yes, always. Clicking Save uploads your changes to the Bookem server, making them permanent and accessible from any device.
What if I’m using incognito mode?
Drafts don’t work properly in incognito mode. They’ll only last while the tab is open. Once you close it, the draft is gone. To avoid losing work, make sure you’re not using incognito mode when editing documents.
The draft feature protects you from losing work if you forget to save — but it’s not a replacement for saving. Always click save to make sure your document is safely stored and synced with your Bookem account.
Bookem uses icons to show the save status of your document and where your changes are currently stored:
What this means: Bookem is keeping a temporary copy in your browser, but nothing has been saved to your Bookem account.
What you need to do: Click save when you’re ready to securely store the document. This will upload it to Bookem so you can access it later (including from other devices).
What this means: This document has been saved to Bookem previously, but you’ve made new changes that haven’t been saved yet. Right now, those changes only live in the browser you are using to create the document.
What you need to do: Click save to update the version on your Bookem account. This makes sure your latest edits are stored safely and available from any device.
To ensure your work is secure and available across all your devices:
Always click save when you’re done editing.
Treat the draft-saving feature as a fallback for user error, NOT your main method of saving.
